As far back as even in 11th century foreign travelers called Russia “A Land of Towns”. Ancient Russian towns were the centers of education and arts, icon painting, folk arts and crafts.

Every year in winter and early spring folk festivals are held in all towns of the Golden Ring (Russian Winter and Maslenitsa – the Pancake week). Tourists have a chance to taste Russian cuisine, to take part in traditional national games, to go sledging. Troika rides and other traditional folk customs take place during these holidays.
